Easy is outside my vocabulary!
I was born in a third-world country with minimal opportunities, much like my fellow Latinos who fight daily the injustices of our governments.
Growing up, I would hear stories about the coveted United States of America. My dream was to come to the US and speak the language; I wanted the American dream!
On career day in elementary school, I told the class I wanted to be an astronaut. My teacher replied, “You’ll never become an astronaut!” Sadly I believed her. You see, I didn’t have a home, my biological father abandoned me, and my mother was then traveling to the US in hopes of a better future for us. It was naive of me to think I could accomplish anything.
But God would have it another way! Although I didn’t become an astronaut, my mother did pave the way for me to live the American dream. I eventually moved to the US of A and now speak English, achieved multiple degrees, including my MBA, and am now the proud owner of my own business. I’ve had the pleasure of working in five different industries: Retail, Telecommunication sector, Banking, Civil Service, and Transportation.
The story doesn’t end there, though. I got married and have two beautiful daughters, my “WHY.” After my father’s passing, a failed marriage, and a struggling business, I picked myself back up again, and today I can earnestly say I did it. I’ve precisely manifested the life I always dreamed of. I have a loving and supporting partner and abundant opportunities within my reach. The universe I once thought I wanted to explore has become the one I live in!
I thank my mother for her insatiable desire for more, not settling, courageously going after her dreams, and being my number one supporter, rock, and hero.
Dreams come true. Don’t allow your circumstances to dictate your future. Everything you have endured is the stepping stone to your appointed destination. I am proof that it is possible. Never give up, and never give in. You hold the pen to your story!
Take a good hard look at your life; be thankful for the journey! Congratulations, you’ve made it this far. I leave you with this quote:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards”
